Expanded Pain Management Services offered at MCHHS

Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems (MCHHS) offers pain management services to treat and relieve symptoms of numerous pain diagnoses. These procedures include epidural steroid injections, small and large joint injections, radiofrequency ablations, and more. New advanced radiology interventions performed now include CT Myelograms and MRI Arthrograms to help evaluate and treat patients struggling with chronic pain. These procedures are recommended by healthcare providers as a last step to reveal issues not detected by a conventional CT scan or MRI and are completed under the direct care of Dr. Scott Kaul, DNAP, CRNA, NSPM-C and our professional radiology staff.

A myelogram is an important imaging modality that uses a contrast material and the high resolution of CT scans to receive detailed pictures of a patient’s spine. This procedure is used to evaluate and diagnose chronic back conditions including herniated disks, arthritis, spinal stenosis, bone spurs and spinal tumors. The process consists of Dr. Kaul injecting a contrast material into the chronic area to highlight issues in the spinal cord, nerves and soft tissues to be seen by our radiologist during a CT scan.

An MRI Arthrogram is an imaging test used to look at a joint and aids in the evaluation and diagnosis of joint conditions, loss of motion and unexplained pain. It is very effective at detecting disease within the ligaments, tendons and cartilage, specifically in shoulders, knees or hips. MRI Arthrograms also help medical providers evaluate joint tissues after joint replacement surgery. The procedure consists of Dr. Kaul injecting a contrast material directly into the joint to outline the structures within the joint, which allows enhanced visualization for a radiologist during an MRI.
