Auxiliary

Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems Ladies Auxiliary celebrated 50 years of service in May 2016. During that celebration they recognized three charter members; Shirley Conley, Bonnie Steiner and Janet Specht.

The organization as it is today, started with a small group of women and has grown to over 50 active volunteers. They meet twice a year, the first Monday in April and October.

Volunteer hours are spent in the Gift Shop at the hospital and in the Economy Shop located at the Beloit Municipal Building. The Economy Shop hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM and the MCHHS Gift Shop hours are 9:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.

The Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems Auxiliary, in collaboration with Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems, provides an annual Teddy Bear Clinic for kindergarten students every fall. The purpose of this program is to help children be more relaxed when they or their family are in the hospital. This early exposure to healthcare is also a great way to promote healthy habits at a young age. We also love it when we hear our next generation say “I want to be a . . .nurse, doctor, therapist, etc. . .when I grow up.” As the students arrive, they are greeted with their very own MCHHS teddy bear and “employee” name badge. Students from Beloit Elementary, St. John’s Catholic School, Glasco, Lakeside, Tipton, Mankato and Lucas-Sylvan receive behind-the-scenes look inside both clinical and non-clinical departments of MCHHS. Over 3,000 hours are contributed to the development and success of this project every year. This program started in 1990, originally known as the Doll Clinic, by Vickie Mears and Mary Jane Chapman of the Auxiliary.

The Economy Shop brings in an average profit of over $30,000 each year, thanks to the generosity of area citizens. The merchandise is all donated and the shop is staffed by volunteers. Money is also made from the Gift Shop sales and memorial donations.

The funds raised throughout the year are allocated for various projects in the hospital. Some funds are set aside for recurring projects to include events for the Resident Care Center and scholarships to area students who are pursuing a medical career. Each year a donation is made to go towards a new project in the hospital.

The ladies auxiliary has not only donated monetary items to the hospital throughout the years, but the most important donations are the volunteer hours by many generous residents in our counties. Our volunteers come from all over the area to include; Beloit, Tipton, Hunter, Glen Elder, Cawker City, Jewell and Simpson.
