Echocardiography


What is echocardiography?

An echocardiogram is an ultrasound in which sound waves are used to obtain images of the heart.

What happens during the exam?

An ultrasound technologist will place EKG leads on your chest, also ultrasound gel will be applied to the area over your heart and images will be obtain by rubbing an ultrasound probe over the skin.

The sonographer will be able to answer questions about the test process during your exam.

Are there any risks?

There are no documented risks associated with the use of ultrasound in diagnostic procedures.

What's the preparation for the test?

Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your exam, in order to check in for your exam.

There is no prep for echocardiograms

How long does the exam take?

It may take 30-40 minutes for your exam, depending on what your doctor has ordered.

When will I receive my results?

Your final results will be read by physician, who is specialized in reading echocardiograms. These results will then be sent to your physician, who will then contact you with the findings. Please allow up to one week for your physician to contact you.
