"Laughing all the way and...making spirits bright"
The bells are jingling! Just as the song suggests, many of us are hoping for laughter and bright spirits this holiday season. Holidays and the New Year can bring on a sense of excitement, hope and joy. However this time of year can also trigger feelings of sadness, grief, and depression. If you find yourself experiencing increased sadness during this time of year, you are not alone. Holidays can be a difficult time and even more challenging if you are experiencing SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder.) SAD is a type of depression that can occur during different seasons of the year, especially in Fall and Winter. Different factors including changes in daylight and weather are believed to contribute to SAD. Individuals with this condition may experience loss of interest in activities that were once enjoyed; decreased energy, changes in sleep patterns and/or eating patterns, increased irritability and difficulty with concentration.
